2019 Rosé of Cabernet FrancContra Costa County
This Rosé of Cabernet Franc is from a sustainably-farmed vineyard nestled in a windy corner of Contra Costa County, near Mount Diablo. Winds coming off the Sacramento Delta keep the grapes cool during the growing season, preserving acidity in the wine.
The Cabernet Franc was hand-picked on August 29th. The grapes were foot-treaded upon arrival at the winery and let to sit for color and flavor to extract into the juice. That same day, the grapes were pressed and fermented with native yeast. Mid-fermentation, the wine was transferred to neutral oak barrels (formely used for red wine) where it then aged for six months before bottling without filtration. The resulting wine is flinty with soft, lingering acidity and bright notes of strawberries and watermelon.
